Fans of COIN should look out for mistakes on their pieces because "double die" variations can fetch high pri
Diggin Dave, a fan of metal detecting and coin roll hunting, recently carried out this exact action.
He claims to have discovered a 1976 George Washington bicentennial quarter while sorting through a roll of coins.
According to Dave, the text contains a double-die error, which suggests that the coin could be worth between $150 and $200.
The letters "R," "E," and "B" in the word Liberty were all doubled in this instance on the left.
In honor of the 200th anniversary of the US's independence, the coin was first created in 1975.
The coin itself bears the dual dates 1776–1976 and was struck in the years 1975 and 1976.
According to the Professional Coin Grading Service, a double die Denver bicentennial quarter sold for $3,246 in 2019.
A different bicentennial quarter, which received eight bids, sold for $128 on eBay in July 2022.
It had been struck off-center rather than with the double die error.
