John Kirby defends Biden’s tweet on gas prices

John Kirby of the National Security Council defended President Joe Biden's weekend tweet pleading with gas companies to lower their prices on Sunday.

On "Fox News Sunday," Kirby said, "I think anyone who knows President Biden knows he's plain-spoken and he tells exactly what he's thinking in terms that everybody can understand."

The National Security Council's coordinator for strategic communications, Kirby, conducted an extensive interview with Mike Emanuel.

On Saturday, Biden tweeted: "This is a time of war and global peril. My message to the companies running gas stations and setting prices at the pump is simple.

Reduce the pump price to reflect the price you are actually paying for the product.

Emanuel showed a statement from Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon, in which he claimed that Biden's comments were "either straight forward misdirection or a deep misunderstanding of basic market dynamics."

"Since gas is now $5 per gallon, it is obvious that the American people are suffering at the pump.

Mike, the president is trying desperately to lower that price on a number of fronts "The president's recent efforts at the G-7 summit and the release of oil from the country's strategic oil reserve were mentioned by Kirby.
