On Saturday, Mo Donegal won the Belmont Stakes, adding to Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher's trophy rack and depriving Rich Strike a second Triple Crown jewel.
Pletcher's fourth Belmont Stakes victory was thanks to jockey Irad Ortiz Jr., who guided the Wood Memorial Stakes champion to victory at Elmont, New York.
"It was a one-of-a-kind experience," Ortiz added.
They deserve it," he said of the owner and trainer.
In the 20-horse Kentucky Derby, Mo Donegal, the son of Uncle Mo, came back from 19th place to finish a good fifth.
Mike Repole, who had a one-two finish with Mo Donegal and the filly Nest, was twice as happy with the victory.
As a New Yorker, he described his first-place finish as "a fantasy that I have had for 40 years" at his hometown track.
