Nickels can be worth up to $400,000.

A 1913 Buffalo nickel recently sold for $400,000 thanks to just a few factors, according to popular coin collector Eric Miller.

He frequently publishes videos about coins, their rarities, and the particulars that make them valuable.

He began by saying that since the Gold Buffalo Nickel was struck on a $5 gold coin, it was probably a mistake.

When determining whether your Buffalo nickel is worth a lot of money, there are two additional key considerations to make:

It has to be gold. Must weigh more than eight grams

According to Eric, these Buffalo nickels should typically weigh around five grams, but the one that was sold weighed more than eight, increasing its value.

James E. Fraser, a sculptor, replaced the Liberty Head nickel on the Buffalo nickel in 1913.

The date is on the lower left, and the obverse features the head of an Indian looking to the right, along with the word LIBERTY in small letters.

The words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and E PLURIBUS UNUM are displayed above a bison standing on a raised mound, and the denomination FIVE CENTS is shown on a mound below.
